slant architects - Church Avenue. Selected example of residential architecture

Slant Architects specialises in residential and domestic extensions and conversions. Through over 15 years of experience, working throughout the east of England,  we offer clients the necessary capabilities and experience to oversee a project from inception right through to design, planning, building regulations and construction.

The first stage is to arrange a consultation meeting at a suitable date and time to discuss your project. This initial meeting is free of charge as I will need to understand the aspirations you have for your property.

To help understand the different stages you might go through with your project we have outlined a typical step by step process:

1. Initial Brief

Everything starts with an idea. We will take the time to sit with you, listen to your ideas and discuss your aspirations and the practicalities of what you are looking to achieve for your budget. From this initial meeting, we then create a design brief.

At this stage, I can also offer advice as to whether other consultants might be needed and, if so, the appropriate time to introduce them. These might be a structural engineer, cost consultant or party wall surveyor, for example

2. Concept Design

Having agreed on a project brief, the next stage is to put pen to paper!  We’ll turn your ideas into a series of design options that work for you. Our design process involves everything from hand-drawn sketches to 3D models, physical models, and CGI renders – each of which provides you with a visual representation of your project.

3. Planning Submission

Once we have settled upon your preferred design option.  We’ll assess the best means to obtaining planning permission, should it be required.  We will also advise you on permitted development and lawful development certificates and then ascertain the best course of action to obtain planning permission for the proposed design.

We’ll prepare and submit the necessary drawings and supporting information for the planning application.  We’ll also advise you if additional surveys are required.  We will continue to monitor the application and work with the Local Authority to rectify any queries on your behalf.

4. Building Regulations

Once planning consent has been achieved, we can begin to develop more technically detailed information.  We will meet to discuss your specific needs on aspects including lighting design, internal finishes, electrical layout and heating services etc.

This will enable us to submit a Building Regulations application.  As your architect, I will develop the construction drawings and specifications and coordinate with other professional consultants towards obtaining Building Regulations plans approval consent.

5. Construction

Once all applications have been approved and the required consents have been obtained, we can meet with local builders and invite them to formally tender for undertaking the construction works. Our team will manage this process to acquire suitable fixed-fee estimates, a construction programme through to project completion.
